Need a Particular Minnesota Record?
These starting points match common Minnesota record questions with the office or collection that can answer them:
- Address and street records: follow the Minnesota street directory path
- Older directory volumes: use the Minnesota city directory collections
- One person's records: start with the Minnesota resident lookup sources
- State and county custodians: find the right office through Minnesota resident records offices
- Data not posted online: ask the responsible authority under the Minnesota Government Data Practices Act, Minn. Stat. chapter 13

County land-record example: Hennepin County Recorder and Registrar of Titles research kiosks are on the Skyway level, 300 S. Sixth Street, room SK-0353, Minneapolis. Public hours are weekdays, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; call 612-348-5139 or email recordsrequest@hennepin.us. The county's land-title access page explains index, kiosk, mail-copy, and fee routes. Each Minnesota county has its own recorder or registrar, so use the county where the property sits.
Minnesota has no one public-records desk for every county, city, and state agency. For a chapter 13 request, contact the responsible authority for the office that created or holds the record; that office can explain inspection, copy, and mail options.
